Dear Bay Hills Church,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the sudden passing of Pastor Curt Vanderstelt. While leading a Youth Ministry event to Alcatraz Island, Pastor Curt experienced a medical emergency and, despite all efforts, went to be with Jesus late last night.
In just a short time at Bay Hills, Pastor Curt has become a leader, friend, mentor, and pastor to many. His passion for sharing the love of Jesus, his warm and welcoming spirit, and his unwavering commitment to NextGen ministries has already left a lasting impact. He is survived by his wife, Becky, and two daughters. In this moment of grief, we ask that you honor the family's need for privacy as they navigate this profound loss.
Today, I'm reminded of the comfort and hope that only the Christian faith can provide. The Bible assures us that "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). Please be lifting up the family in prayer at this time, accordingly.
This Sunday, I will be stepping in to deliver the message in Pastor Curt's place.
Let's hold onto the hope that Pastor Curt was always eager to emphasize—the hope of a life beyond this one, where there is no more pain or suffering, only joy with Jesus.
With grace, love, and deep sympathy,

Mrs. Vanderstelt, God understands every emotion and thought you have had and will have concerning the great loss of your husband. The numbness, the fear of the future, the feelings of being cheated of your life together, feelings of being betrayed by God since you were in His service, or feelings of abandonment by your husband for dying... these are all normal. Please remember God's love for you and your baby girl has never and will never change. Whatever God doesn't rescue us from He walks with us through even when we can't feel Him. Some things we won't understand this side of heaven. I prayed for twins and God gave them to us. One is severely cognitively disabled. God never asked us to agree with everything that happens. He wants our hearts through them and our faith. Trust is faith in action. I pray that each brand new day you can trust Him a little more and that you keep talking to Him about your thoughts and feelings even if you're mad at Him. You can't see it now but one day in the future you'll see God has created beauty in your life again.
